cheap day trips Hazleton

 Hi guys we are back again on the road.  This time I am staying close to home, right in Hazleton.  I know what your thinking.  There is nothing in Hazleton to do.  We I disagree, if you look around you can always find something, and boy I found and interesting one.  The first stop in hazleton is Rails To Trails.  I have to admit I knew about this but never really check it out until now.  This is a great place, no matter if you need to walk to get into shape or your a marathon runner.  The trail is very smooth and flat, they have gentle slops so there is no steep climming.

I was supprised to find when I went on line that this is a national thing.  They have these trails all over the country.  They are in the process of hooking all the small paths together to make much larger paths. 

I strongly urge you to check out their site http://www.railtotrails.org/index.html   It seems just about anywhere you go you will find these path, it's a great way to get some daily excerise in.  I would also make sure that the camera is handy,

I would take a little back pack with you with some water and a snack or two.

You can make this an all day trip by itself, but if you just and to go for a morning stroll, Then on your way back hit down town hazleton for lunch.  There are several places you can go. There are the normal fast food places down town and at the mall, There are also many other small places down town, I am going to talk about two of my favorite.  If there are others that you like please feel free to comment on here about them.

The first place I want to talk about is Carmen's.  It looks small on the outside, but don't let that keep you away.  They have a great bakery, Oh my god It takes me a very long time to pick what I want.  I usually end up with way to many things.  If your on a diet, stop for the day.  It's worth it.  Then they have a deli in there as well.  The food is to die for.  The sandwiches are all just five dollars.  I mean where can you get great home made food for that.  They also have hot food items as well.  What is my favorite,  I don't have one, everything is awsome. It is worth mentioning that they also have Carmens Country Inn, just outside of Freeland.  That website is  www.carmenscountyinn.com  Check in out.

The second place I want to talk about is Jimmy's  Home of the famous hot dogs.  When you walk in, it looks like you stepped back into the 50's.  You can get a hot dog with anything you want on it, I tell you these are the best hot dogs in town. To wash all that goodness down, a rootbeer float.  My kids love them.

No matter wich you pick or if you pick another place in town, I am sure your dinning experance will be great.

If your saing, Don my budget is a little tight.  I want to pack a picnic.  That's great then head over through West Hazleton toward Hazleton Community Park.  This is a great place to do that.  There are play areas for the kids. Picnic areas to eat, and more.

This great little park has several places for kids to play on, and they always seem to be adding new things   They have it well padded so if they fall they don't get hurt.  They also have several picnic areas and pavilans.  Great for family reunions as well.

For the work out freak, they have signs posted on how to do that with out getting hurt.  There are several path to go jocking or hicking on.  Make sure you streach properly first.  I think I pulled a hammy, I know odd right i am usually eathing that.

For those of you who like to fish, there is a lake there to do just that.  They even have a machine where you can buy bait.  You would think that fishing would be the sport for me, just sitting there waiting for something to grab my hook, but no not for me.

This is a quick look at Hazleton and something you can do for fun.  There are many other things in Hazleton.  There are some antique shop down town, as well as other small shops worth checking out.  There is a wonderful library across from city hall, and many other things as well.  Take sometime to just walk around down town and you might be suprised what you find.
